How big is the UDMB Colorguard and how many Twirlers (Golden Girls) are there?

The UDMB Colorguard averages between 36 - 44 men and women. Of the total number, 8 - 12 are selected to perform in the weapons line. The total number of Golden Girls averages between 2 - 6 each year.

What kind of equipment does the Colorguard use?

Every member of the colorguard uses a variety of flags throughout the season. Rifles and sabers are routinely used by members of the weapons line. After that the sky's the limit! The guard has used everything imaginable over the years: double swing flags, stretch lycra, weapons in the forms of curves and an "S" just to name a few. Our definition of "equipment" is very broad. If a piece of music calls for a specific visual look, we will create the look even if it means it has to built.

Are the guard and twirlers part of the band?

The band is the band--it includes EVERYONE! The colorguard and twirlers are not thought of as separate organizations. Just as the clarinets are part of the woodwind section, the guard and twirlers make up the auxiliary section. Each section (brass, woodwind, percussion and auxiliary) make up the whole: the UDMB.

When you read over the GENERAL BAND INFO page, please note that everything there pertains to all sections of the band!
